“As the rear area of Hunan province, there was no large scale battle as Changsha Battle, Changde Battle and Hengyang Battle happened in Chenzhou city from July, 1937 to August, 1945.” as introduced by Huang Chuande- former Curator of Chenzhou Archives Bureau and Associated Research Fellow on July 22, 2015. According to the “No. 386” archive reserved in Chenzhou Archives Bureau, the battles between Chenzhou people and Japanese mainly happened from January to August, 1945. During these 7 months, Chenzhou people killed and hurt over 2000 Japanese soldiers.

The reporters read “No. 386” archive. It marked with “January-September working report for the 3rd prefectural commissioner office of puppet regime” on the surface of the archive. As introduced by Huang Chuande: “from the data, we learned that the Japanese army invaded many places of Chenzhou from August, 1944. On January 21, 1945, over 10,000 Japanese army invaded Chenxian county (current Suxian district) from Yongxing, Guiyang and Yizhang. In the afternoon of January 22, 1945, the army of Nationalist Party stationed in Chenzhou fought against the Japanese army. Because lacking of soldiers, the Nationalist Party army withdrew to Dakuishan area (current Wugaishan town).
As learned from the data, Chenzhou urban area was taken over by the Japanese army on January 24, 1945. Headquarter of anti-Japanese war of Chenzhou Nationalist Party withdrew to Dakuishan area and the general headquarter of Hunan Provincial Nationalist Party was transferred to Rucheng county. Chenzhou people resisted the Japanese army fiercely during their mopping up period.

It was learned that from the date of submerge of January 24, 1945 to the recapture date of August 25, 1945, over 1000 Japanese soldiers were killed and hurt and over 50 Japanese soldiers were captured by Chenzhou people. Huang Chuande said, the New Fourth Army and partisan troops led by the Communist Party mainly fought in the rear area of Zixing, Guidong, Rucheng, Guiyang, Yizhang, Anren, and other places.
Though no large scale battle led by the Party, some scrimmages were held frequently. According to the data, the partisan troop led by Li Dahai of Chenxian county killed 37 people puppet army and Yongfeng partisan troop killed over 10 Japanese soldiers.
At the meantime, the partisan troops took active actions to cooperate with the Nationalist Part to fight for the frontline battles. On August, 1945, Wang Zheng led a detachment to fight against the Japanese army, which greatly mobilize partisans’ confidence on anti-Japanese war and extend the influence of the Communist Party in Chenzhou area.
