Chen Guang (1906-19854) was born in Yizhang County of Hunan Province. He was engaged in the peasants’ movement in 1926 and joined the Chinese Communist Party the next year. He participated in the Southern Hunan Uprising, Jinggang Mountain Fighting and the Long March (which began in 1934 and ended in 1936). During the Anti-Japanese war, he held the posts of commander of NO.343 brigade belonging to NO.115 Division and the deputy chief of the army. In March of 1943, he went to Yan’an, the cradle of Chinese revolution and studied in the Party School of CPC. During the liberation War, he held the posts of the vice commander of the Dongman Military Region, the Chief of staff and the commander of the 6th Column of the Northeastern Democratic Association Army. After the establishment of PRC, he worked as the vice commander of Guangdong Military Region and the commander of Guangzhou Garrison Group.
