Deng Hua (1910-1980) was born in the Beihu District, Chenzhou City, Hunan Province. He joined the CPC in March of the year 1927 and involved himself in the Southern Hunan Uprising, Jingang Mountain Fighting and the Long March. During the Anti-Japanese War, he worked as the political Commissar of No.115 Division belonging to the Eighth Route Army (led by the CPC during the war of Resistance against Japan), the Political Commissar of the first Section of Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Military Region, and the Political Commissar of the 4th Column. During the Liberation War (1945-1949), he held the posts of the commander of the 7th Column in the Northeast Field Army, the Commander of No.44 Army Corps belonging to the 4th Field Army, and the Commander of the 15th Corps. After the establishment of the PRC, he worked as the commander of the 13th Corps, the first Vice- Commander and Vice-political Commissar of the Chinese Volunteer Corps, the Commander and political Commissar of the Chinese Volunteer Corps, the vice chief of staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and Commander of the Shenyang Military Region, the vice president of the Military Academy, etc. In 1955, he was conferred the General-military-rank and awarded the first-rank Bayi Medal, the first-rank Independence and Freedom Medal and the first Liberation Medal. He was also a member of the first and second National Defense Department, a member of the 8th Central Committee of the CPC, and a member of the 9th, 10th and 11th Central Committee of the CPC.
