Covering an area of 1,375.24 square kilometers, the county has jurisdiction over 5 towns, 17 townships, 3 agriculture and forestry sites, 10 neighborhood committees and 289 villagers' committees. It has a population of 308,503 and 11 ethnic groups like Yao, Zhuang, Miao, Dong and Man.

 

Linwu County is rich in mineral resources and has been acclaimed as the "minor home of non-ferrous metals" and "home of coals". The county boasts 50 kinds of proved mineral reserves from 9 categories, 9 large deposits and 12 medium-sized deposits.
