A few days ago, the Department of Ecological Environment of Hunan Province reported the environmental quality of each county (city, district) in 2020. The comprehensive air quality index of Guidong County was 1.88, with 311 excellent days and 55 good days. The excellent and good rate was 100 percent, ranking first in the province. It was understood that the air quality of Guidong County has ranked first in the province for three consecutive years.

In recent years, Guidong County has firmly established the development concept of ecological civilization that "Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", resolutely fought the battle of pollution prevention and control, spared no effort to protect the excellent ecological environment of "blue sky, lucid water green, green mountains and clean air", closed all chemical enterprises and fireworks and bamboo blasting enterprises in the county, closed 159 illegal brick factories, shut down the only two coal mines in the county and banned sand mining in the Oujiang River Basin. At the same time, the county comprehensively strengthened the pollution control of livestock breeding and the transformation of coal-fired boilers, strengthened the supervision of oil and gas recovery at gas stations, fireworks and firecrackers discharge, and dust emission at construction sites, solidly promoted the comprehensive improvement of rural environment focusing on "clean countryside", "clean water action" and "clean project", and promoted the integrated services of urban and rural garbage collection and transportation, comprehensive treatment and cleaning, and further consolidated the ambient air quality.

Since the beginning of February this year, Guidong County has launched the activities of "sanitation, garbage removal, debris removal and epidemic prevention" in the whole county. Thousands of Party members and cadres, volunteers of civilization practice in the new era and farmers have quickly participated in the activities, so as to make the rural environmental sanitation reach the standards of clean, tidy and orderly. At the same time, the county has actively guided the villagers to implement waste classification, advocated healthy lifestyle, established and improved the long-term cleaning mechanism, and set up a new trend of civilization.

A few days ago, the Hunan Provincial Department of Ecological Environment held a news conference, saying that the air quality of Guidong County has reached the national first-class standard, which is the first time that the county (city, district) in the province has reached the national first-class standard after the current standard was formulated.
