Cultural Activity Shaping Bright Cultural Name Card for Chenzhou City

“I think it is a good platform to the masses by providing such a chance to show themselves. The programs were wonderful and we all enjoyed it.” – said one of the audiences who watched the performances in Longnv landscape public stage on October 28, 2012. As a major carrier of “music week of Beihu lake summer”, the public stage is becoming more and more attractive.

 

The music week of Beihu summer was first named and held in Chenzhou Art Festival in 1987. From that year on, it has become a regular issue to be held every two years in Chenzhou city. With the years’ efforts of Chenzhou government and citizens, music week of Beihu summer becomes a most famous cultural brand involving the most extensive masses to attend.

 

In 2012, this music week last for 4 months with more than 30 different performances. Over 30,000 members from government departments, enterprises, communities and folk troupes created and recomposed more than 300 programs, among which some fine works specified Chenzhou local characteristics.

 

The music week of Beihu summer is not constrained in Beihu district. For example, one of its famous songs “beauties of water & moon” which was created this year was selected to attend Hunan provincial art festival, and 8 programs were awarded with golden and silver medals in Chenzhou municipal art festival. Especially for the successful recomposition of Longnv and Liu Yi legend, it helped to forge tourism brand with local culture by perfectly combining intangible cultural heritage with stage art.

 

Besides the music week of Beihu summer, Chenzhou government has been working hard on forging more cultural brands to shape Chenzhou cultural brands in recent years. Hunan Kunqu opera culture and Linwu Nuo opera culture are the two key projects with Chenzhou unique features. In order to promote them with more popularity, series of activities were held, such as cross-strait Kunqu opera performance entitled “dating with Chenzhou” was successfully held in this April, Hunan Kunqu opera troupe went to Beijing for the propaganda of seventh “China cultural heritage Day” and went to Hong Kong for communication performance in this June, China Hunan Linwu Nuo Cultural Seminar was held in August, which attracted worldwide attention.

 

Concerning the mass cultural activities, Chenzhou city keeps building more fine cultural works and brands to enrich citizens’ spiritual lives. In the forth Hunan art festival,

 

Chenzhou city achieved the most fruitful results than ever before, 2 professional artistic plays, 9 massive cultural stage performances, 12 calligraphy and photography works were selected. 4 programs of them were awarded with golden prize and 5 plays performed by Chenzhou Art Institute gained upper provincial awards. The great drama, “in the name of mountain” which was edited by Liu Zhenmao’s real story and performed by Hunan Kunqu opera troupe won the first prize and the reading promotion project named “Seedling Reading Room” was awarded with “Sanxiang star”.
