Leather Belt of the Warring States Period Finds in Chenzhou City

The organizing work for the burial goods founded in 5 tombs of Chu State- one of states of late Warring States Period has been finished in Chenzhou city.

Hundreds of cultural relics as bronze ware, bamboo and lacquer ware, silk fabrics, etc. were discovered from the tombs.

 

Can you imagine the feather belt and silk fabrics made in 2300 years ago?

 

It was learned from Chenzhou Cultural Relics Bureau that the organizing work for the burial goods founded in 5 tombs of Chu State- one of states of late Warring States Period has been finished in Chenzhou city. Hundreds of cultural relics as bronze ware, bamboo and lacquer ware, silk fabrics fragments, etc. were discovered from the tombs. According to the quantity, quality and features of the burial goods, the owner of these tombs was the noble “Shi” grade in Chu State.

 

All the five tombs with about 2300-year history were discovered in the construction site of Guimenling area of Laodong road of Chenzhou city from this March to July. One of them was with complete coffin, which was the first complete coffin of Chu State of the late Warring States Period founded in Chenzhou city.

 

It was introduced by the principal of the cultural relics department that a 135cm long and 9.5cm wide leather belt was founded in one of the tombs, which was the first one discovered in Chenzhou city and was the one with best condition in China as well.

 

Different silk fabrics fragments were discovered from the tombs, some of which were with vivid bird images. According to the bones and hair of human beings, it was preliminarily judged the owner was a 1.60m tall female, 48-52 years old.

 

It was learned that such kind of tombs with abundant silk fabrics and good condition leather belt were seldom discovered in the same period’s tombs. It was valuable for studying the living condition of “Shi” grade with such kinds of burial goods.
