Nuo Opera is a theatrical form developed from Nuo ritual dance, known as the living fossil of folk culture. The Nuo Opera in Youwan Village has a history of over 500 years. Compared with Nuo Opera in other regions, it mainly prays for a better life through petitions of villages, families, or individuals.

 

The whole performance is ancient and unique, with elements of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, possessing a strong mysterious Chu wizard culture color and precious artistic value. In December 2014, the “Linwu Nuo Opera” was included in the fourth batch of national intangible cultural heritage protection list.
