During the reign of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty, Deng Yishao, Deng Chuanfa, and Cao Jiyuan in Xiaobu Village, Beihu District were the earliest artists to learn Beilu Opera. After several generations of inheritance, a family-style inheritance model has been formed, dominated by the Deng’s family in Xiaobu Village. This also makes Beilu Opera well inherited and protected, and integrated into local characteristic traditional culture.

Lutang Sand Jar firing technique

The Lutang Sand Jar firing technique has a history of over 800 years. Lutang Sand Jars are made of the local unique egg yolk mud clay through 72 processes. They are loved by people because the food cooked in them is not rotten and easy to store.

The Red cultural and creative products made with this firing technique are highly favoured by tourists and won the silver medal in the 2022 Hunan Tourism and Cultural Product Competition.

In recent years, Beihu District has attached great importance to the protection of cultural heritage and continued efforts to strengthen the protection of intangible cultural heritage projects.
