It was learned that “decision on further promotion of ecological civilization construction” was released by Chenzhou Municipal Party Committee and Chenzhou Government in last September. According to the decision, it would focus on four aspects as ecological nature, ecological industry, ecological living condition and ecological culture to promote the construction work. It was aimed to apply to be a pilot city of national ecological civilization construction in 2015 and establish Chenzhou city as a national ecological civilization city in 2020 successfully. Xiang Lili- Secretary of Chenzhou Municipal Party Committee stated on the promotion conference that ecology was one of the advantages of Chenzhou city and ecological civilization was the advanced form of human civilization. The key point concerned for future development was the improvement of ecology. That was why Chenzhou city would focus on the ecological civilization construction to get the power of initiative for the competition in future.

How about the ecological civilization construction handled out in Chenzhou city now?

An interview team formed by Chenzhou News Net and some media of Hunan province started their trip in the spring of 2014 to find the “green” answers of Chenzhou city.
The first stop of the team was Suxian district.

Enjoying a leisure life in Xihe river banks

According to the design sketch, there were three functional areas as fitness area, sports area and leisure area available for Xihe Sports Park. Basketball court, football field, swimming pool, tennis court, and other sports courts were facilitated there to meet people’s different fitness demands.

Xihe Beach Park was just 200meters away from Xihe Sports Park.

Zhou Qiangguo who was from Shaoyang city, Hunan province was amazed to find this fantastic scenery in Xihe Beach Park when he visited there at the very first time. He was surprised that such a heavy-polluted area can be improved to be so beautiful.

Xie Xiaolian who was used to live near Xihe river still remembered the days she played in the the clear river with her little friends. But along with the mineral industry’s development, Xihe river was badly polluted that she never dared to play there anymore.

Suxian district was famous as “the world’s non-ferrous metal museum”, but was suffered badly from the heavy metal pollution years ago. According to the data, over one thousand mining enterprises gathered there in last century. Over 20million tons of sewage water were discharged to Xihe river directly annually, which badly polluted the river.
It was an urgent issue to change such a situation of Xihe river! From 2009, Suxian district launched the management project of heavy metal pollution along Xiangjiang river firstly.

With over 5 years’ efforts, 613 illegal mining enterprises were closed. At the meantime, different financing and investment methods were carried out by Suxian district to attract more social capitals to place investment on the protection of ecological environment.

Thanks to this kind of favorable policy, Xihe river has been improved to be a special leisure landscape belt of Chenzhou city. Xihe Beach Park was awarded with “Examples of Habitat Environment Prize”- the highest habitat construction prize of China by the State Housing Ministry in 2014. Along with the improvement of the environment condition, more people were attracted to enjoy their leisure life there. Xie Xiaolian who escaped there for its pollution came back now too.

When reporters arrived as Wangxian Lake, many people were playing and fishing there.

Chenjiang river, Xihe river and Donghe river were the branches of Cuijiang river which was the branch of Xiangjiang river. Once the water of Xihe river affluxes into Chenjiang river, it would afflux into Dongjiang river from Chongli, Qiaokou town where is in Feitian mountain landscape.

How about the renovation effect of Chenjiang river, people who live near here can tell the obvious difference.

According to the test, the water quality of Cuijiang river’s fracture surface meet III-class standard of surface water with the qualification rate of 98.64%.

Rural tourism in Heping village

“Vegetable garden, flower garden, fruit garden, small park, and small garden” named “five-garden” project was been handling Heping village, Wangxian town, Suxian district currently, which was a project combined the ecology and tourism well. Facilitated with this project, all villagers’ houses would be full of green trees, flowers and fruits over the year.

Thanks to the ecological construction, over 100,000 visitors were attracted to the village, especially during the cole flower season that over 4000 visitors came here daily. Now there were over 16 rural inns above village level available there.

Wu Chao who was 27 years old came back to the hometown to handle this rural inn business in 2013.

Currently, the annual per capital net income of the villager was over 10,000yuan which was about two times of 2010. Heping village was an example to reach the ecological, landscape and economic efficiency together.
