Mangshan Reservoir Project Passes Approval of NDRC

Mangshan reservoir project proposal passed the review of office meeting of the National Development and Reform Commission, and was formally approved by NDRC on December 14, 2012.

 

Mangshan reservoir project locates in Mangshan town and Tiantang town of Yizhang county, Chenzhou city, which is in the upstream of Changle river-the secondary tributary of Zhujiang river system. Mangshan reservoir dam is in Tiantang town. Mangshan reservoir is the control project of river flood control and water resource utilization of Zhujiang River approved by the State Council. It was listed in “construction plan of big reservoir of China” and was one of the three big reservoirs in Hunan province recently. Authorized by NDRC, the expert group led by the director of the state investment assessment center-Jiang Xiqicarefully evaluated the project proposal from June 16 to 20, 2012 by visiting the project site personally. All the team members confirmed that Mangshan reservoir project is necessary and feasible.

 

The estimated investment of this project is about 1.302 billion yuan, among which 1.258 billion yuan is static investment. Once finished, the reservoir, with 143 million square meters storage capacity and 15000 kilowatts hydropower capacity,will be helpful for the flood control, irrigation, power generation, water supply, etc..The flood standards of Changle River were thus improving once in 10 to 20 years, and the significance to the flood control of northern Guangdong should not be underestimated as well. 0.31 million mu farmland of 13 towns of Yizhang County would benefit from this project to increase the harvest of grain. Furthermore, 0.27 million population of the county can be granted with clean drinking water by this new reservoir project.
