When reporters arrived at Haiquan road, Beihu district, Chenzhou city, workers were busy in planting trees. More than 260 seedlings accounting for more than 10,000yuan were planted in that morning, covering 12mu greening land.

Focusing on the target to establish an “ecological Beihu district” and prepare for establishment of national forest city and greening work of urban and rural areas, Beihu district carried out series measures to promote the ecological work in recent years. Five greening projects concerned for urban city, channels, water system, rural areas and barren mountains were forcefully promoted in Beihu district, which helped to form sound greening land system there. Beihu section of Chenzhou avenue was the key project carried out by the district that 20-50meters vertical greening landscape belt, 7kms crape myrtle gallery and 8 small parks were facilitated along the avenue.

In order to ensure the effectiveness of the greening work, Beihu district paid balance attention on plantation and management. Hillsides were closed for afforestation in 2012 with specified medium and long term plan on the basis of the practical condition of the forestry. At the meantime, some prohibitions were issued to assist the fire prevention work and reached good effects accordingly.

“Both treasures and green land are important.” Followed with this concept, Beihu district tried more efforts on the industrial transformation of forestry and development of professional cooperatives of agriculture and forestry, which helped to improve the development of some Hunan provincial leading forestry enterprises. Two oil-tea bases with over one-thousand-mu area, two scaled forestry leading enterprises, some seedling bases, and 10 ecological leisure villas were upgraded in Beihu district. The total forestry revenue hit 1.475 billion yuan in 2013.

It was learned that since last November, 113,000 square meters new greening lands have been increased in Beihu district till now. 89,800 large trees and bushes have been planted in urban area; 3.6kms greening work for Nanling Avenue has been fulfilled; Hanxi road and Xianquan road’s greening work has been fully finished; and 9240mu land for barren mountain afforestation project has been prepared well, 6045mu of which has been planted with over 0.4 million seedlings. At the meantime, some greening work for channels, water systems, and rural areas were promoted well. Currently, the forest coverage rate of Beihu district is about 67.3%. The rate of urban greening and green land and per capita public green area were 44%, 38% and 10.8% respectively.
