When reporters arrived at Baiquanxi construction site where was the site of Jiahe county’s urban flood control project, workers were busy with the construction work. That was a part of the 44million-yuan-investment urban flood control project handled out in Jiahe county.

Due to the historical and geographical reason, Jiahe county was with poor flood control system which badly affected local people’s daily life and hindered the way of Jiahe county’s further development. In order to grant a harmonious living condition to local people, Jiahe county figured out “comprehensive renovation planning of Jiahe county’s urban flood control” to program, monitor and renovate Baiquanxi channels. A leading group of the construction was formed to lead relative departments to handle out the construction work with the standards of defending the short and long term flood of 20 years and 50 years once a time. The total project was amounted to over 44million yuan, which was estimated to be carried out by phases.

Baiquanxi renovation project & the expansion project of Zhonghua east road was launched in last March, which indicated that Jiahe county’s urban flood control project was proceed to substantial implementation phase. Followed with the requirements of “solid dam, fluent water flow, steady banks and beautiful scenery”, the project was carried out accordingly along the 12.7kms long banks of Baiquanxi and 980meters long expansion part of Zhonghua east road. At the meantime, different ecological methods and the closure type of distribution system of rain and sewage were applied to solidify the banks on the basis of guaranteeing the safety of the banks. Furthermore, greening work for water system was handled out by combining together with the beautiful rural housing planning and small parks construction.

Li Fenming- Director of Jiahe Water Supply Bureau said: “it is a foundational social project of urban flood control, which is a long term beneficial project for generations. All the work should be focused on high-level standards to fulfill it with high quality. ”

Till now, the preliminary work has been fulfilled for this project. Once finished, it can fully play its role on flood control and grant a harmonious living condition to local people.“Thanks to the flood control project, the roads condition was improved as well. It is more convenient for us to go outside and we can feel free to face the flood.”gladly said by Li Gangguo- one of the villagers of Xinchao village.
