It was learned that the ten-day scientific investigation for Shizikou nature reserve was finished recently. The scientific investigation team was formed by some experts and scholars from Central South University of Forestry and Technology and Hunan Normal University and some technicians from Suxian Forestry Bureau. It was mainly for the scientific investigation of the wild fauna and flora in Suxian district.

Shizikou Nature Reserve covers 270,000mu areas, 240,000mu of which is in Suxian district and 30,00mu of which is in Yizhang county. More than 1400species of plants have been discovered in this reserve, including some first-grade State protection plants and communities as bretschneidera sinensis and taxus chinensis var mairei, and second-grade State protection plants and communities as cephalotaxus oliveri, torreya tree, emmenopterys henryi Oliv, and etc. During this investigation, some wild animals as silver pheasant, wild boar, and etc. were discovered in this national nature reserve.

It does not only provide some basis data for Suxian district and Yizhang county’s joint application of Hunan provincial nature reserve, but also helped to form a solid foundation for its upgrading of national nature reserve in future.
