When reporters arrived at the core demonstration area of super rice in Baidu village, Heping town, Guiyang county, the harvest golden rice made people feel happy. An observation tour to the demonstration area was held in Heping town on Oct. 14, 2014, principals of agricultural departments from 11 counties and districts of Chenzhou city were present there.

At the noon of that day, an on-site inspection for 1530mu super rice planted in Baidu village was carried out by an experts group organized by agricultural department. The result turned to be 706.6kgs/mu which exceeded expectations. All other counties and districts’ inspection results met the expected targets .

It was learned that over 1.398million mu fields were promoted to be planted with super rice in Chenzhou city last year, covering 36.53% of the total amount of Chenzhou city. Annual average yield capacity for the early season super rice was 513kgs/mu, middle-season rice was 582kgs/mu and late season was 527kgs/mu, all of which were 50kgs/mu more than ordinary rice. In 2014, 1.4313million mu fields were planted with super rice, which was 41,300mu more than the plan preset in the beginning of 2014. Focusing on the key point to gain 4mu fields’ yield by regular technology from 3mu fields by using super hybrid rice technology which was presented by Academician Yuan Longping, Chenzhou city carried out a super rice planting demonstration activity called “one hundred, one-thousand and ten-thousand” which referred to one hundred mu of core areas, one-thousand mu of demonstration areas and ten-thousand mu of radiation areas. 117 demonstration areas, 38 one-thousand mu demonstration areas and 13 ten-thousand mu demonstration areas were arranged in Chenzhou city to plant 32 different species of super rice. 1120mu “two seasons, two exceeds” core demonstration areas set in Nanxiang village, Xifengdu town, Suxian district and 1530mu late season super rice core demonstration areas set in Baidu village, Heping town, Guiyang county were two key projects implemented by Chenzhou Agriculture Bureau.
