“It is surprised that the new bridge can be placed to operation in so short time. From now on, if we want to go to the opposite bank to take of our fields, we do not need to carry the loads by entering the river.”gladly said by Liu Bosui- one of the villagers of Wanfeng village, Yuanjia town of Jiahe county when he learned that the new steel frame bridge was available on January 5, 2015.

Wanfeng village is located one bank of Taojia river. 95% of the fields operated by the villagers are in the opposite bank of the river. In earlier days, villagers went to the opposite bank by a concrete bridge crossed the river. But, unfortunately, the river collapsed in the midnight of November 2, 2014. Villagers were shocked by that accident. “It was the winter planting season then, though the river was not workable, we still have to operate the fields in the opposite bank. We can only go there by entering the river in that cold day, which was very inconvenient.”All 5mu fields operated by Liu Bosui are located in the opposite bank of the river, so it was really hard period for Liu when Wanfeng bridge collapsed. “I dreamed to fix the bridge”said Liu Xinbao- another farmer of the village, “it was convenient to turn to county highway by driving across the bridge in earlier days. But on the days it collapsed, villagers needed to detour about 2kilometers. It was very inconvenient during those days.”

Though all villagers dreamed to fix the bridge eagerly, it was really not a so easy work. Wanfeng bridge belonged to second class bridge which was not covered in the project range. All 600 families’ anticipations plus the reality of lacking of capitals, Liu Lishan, Liu Xinbao and some other villagers stood up. Liu Lishan donated 22,000yuan and Liu Xinbao donated 5000yuan firstly. Leading by them, villagers donated spontaneously. Liu Wenxian who is favored with five guarantees saved 200yuan from his daily expenditure on learning the donation issue. The 83years old Liu Shixian donated 100yuan too. 100,000yuan was collected in just some days by the villagers’ active action.

Assisted with the capitals and technical guidance of Jiahe county’s transportation departments, Fengwan village hired Hunan Shouchuang Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd. which is with abundant experience on building bridges to handle the design and construction of a steel frame bridge across the river. With all the efforts, the 24meters long and 5meters wide bridge which is with the max load-bearing capable of 50tons was finished and placed to operation in 15days.
