2.1 Million Mu Afforestation Work Finished by Chenzhou City in 5 Years

It was learned from on-site conference of Hunan greening work & protection of ancient trees that 2.115million mu afforestation work was finished by Chenzhou city during the “12th five-year plan” , which helped to fulfill the targets of comprehensive greening of urban and rural areas.

 

From 2011, Chenzhou city paid great attention on the greening work in urban and rural areas. It carried out “5 greening projects” as urban greening, barren mountain and land greening, channel greening, water system greening, and villages greening, and implemented five projects as closing hillsides to facilitate afforestation, forest tending, upgrading of ecological landscapes, complementary planting, and greening work on key areas, all of which greatly helped to upgrade the greening level of urban and rural areas. It also established the platform of protection of ancient trees and set up ancient trees management data system of “smart forestry” which helps to obtain the layout and growing condition of the trees by GPS and upgrades the maintenance and protection of the trees. According to the investigation, there are 72,000 trees of 126 categories and 59 families available in Chenzhou city. It is one of the cities in south China with sound reservation of ancient trees. 

 

Wen Zhengjun- Party Member of the Party Group and Chief-engineer of Hunan Provincial Forestry Department, and Lei Xiaoda- Deputy Mayor of Chenzhou City attended the conference. Chenzhou city, Changsha city and Xiangtan county delivered typical speeches on greening of urban and rural areas and protection of ancient trees. The attendees visited Suxiangling and Sanhe village of Beihu district before the conference to inspect Chenzhou city’s work on greening of urban and rural areas and protection of ancient trees.
