It was learned from Chenzhou Forestry Bureau that Hunan Government approved to establish Shizikou Hunan Provincial Natural Reserve in Chenzhou city, which fulfilled the State moral model and “Forest Guard”-Liu Zhenmao’s wish,
According to the approval, the natural reserve covers with 7062 hectares, including 3112 hectares of core areas, 2074 hectares of relief areas, and 1876 hectares experimental areas. It was required that Chenzhou city should enhance the management of the reserve by establishing high efficient management organizations and settling the work on demarcation and confirmation of land rights; should strengthen the management of construction and tourism activities within the reserve by forbidding the construction and tourism activities in core areas and relief areas, and handling them in experimental areas scientifically; and should realize the harmonious development of the reserve by well handling the production and living issues of the residents who live in and near the reserve.

It was learned that the reserve is located in Xishan Mountain where is near the boundary of Zixing city, Suxian district and Yizhang county and belongs to “Nanling mountainous forest and biodiversity ecological function zone”. More than 6600 hectares of subtropics primitive evergreen broad-leaf forest are well reserved in the reserve where is with integrative forest ecological system. Till now, 1517 species of spermatophyte and 249 wild vertebrate have been discovered in this sound gene pool of the reserve. In recent years, the farmers who live in this area were guided to move outside which greatly helped to protect the forest and stop deforestation behaviors, so that the quantities of the wild fauna and flora increased continuously.
