In order to enrich Chenzhou cultural resources, create boutique cultural symbols of Chenzhou city, strengthen people’s sense of pride on Chenzhou culture, manifest the city’s cultural connotation, and popularize Chenzhou city’s fame, the collection of “ten cultural symbols of Chenzhou” was approved by Chenzhou Municipal Party Committee and Chenzhou Government.

The cultural symbol is abstract reflection of a region, a nation, and a county, as well as essence of materials and spirits deposited after a long time. It is the important carrier and form of cultural connotation. Generally speaking, it can be classified as material culture and intangible culture. The key contents for the collection are cultural symbols of Chenzhou city, such as physiographic feature, cultural landscape, special product, oral legend and expression, literature and art, folk custom, craft, and etc., excluding figures.

1) Popularity: popular in Hunan province even nationwide;

2) Fame: favored and accepted by the mass;

3) Representativeness: being representative of Chenzhou city;

4) Uniqueness: distinctive, characteristic and deepening cultural connotation;

5) Regional: within the administrative division of Chenzhou city.

In the middle of this July, some experts organized by the organization commission will study the cultural symbols collected from public and confirm 20 candidates for final voting. Final assessment of the “ten cultural symbols of Chenzhou city” will be carried out on the basis of voting results, and released in public media in the end of this September.
