“Many thanks for the town government, we are facilitated with the pipes and can get access of tap water, so we can feel free about the drinking water problem,” gladly said Chen Matang when reporters visited his house recently.

Chen Matang’s family and other villagers’ access of tap water was mainly depended on the drinking water project favored by public welfare funds of lottery. Qianjin village, Yaogangxian town is one of the key Hunan provincial poverty village, which is with very poor infrastructure condition, especially poor drinking water condition. Yaogangxian town took the best advantages of poverty alleviation policies and obtained the public welfare funds of lottery to handle the project. 170,000yuan funds were placed on Dazhu drinking water project, building one reservoir and laying over 3000meters water pipes. Thanks for this project, more than 500 villagers of the 110 families suffered from drinking water problems were free from it.

From the beginning of poverty alleviation battle, Yaogangxian town listed the drinking water issue into the key working lists and took active actions to obtain more funds from upper level government. It adapted scattered and concentrated water supply model and paid great attention on the improvement of drinking water project to upgrade the living condition of poverty stricken villagers.
