It was estimated to be finished next December

Dongjiang diversion project which was launched in last September was kept as a top concern of Chenzhou people. In early this month, an investigation team of Chenzhou People’s Congress Standing Committee visited the construction site of the project and checked the work on water quality, environment quality, project construction, and etc.

Dongjiang diversion project which is one of the key construction projects and well-being projects of Hunan province, as well as Chenzhou city is divided to three sections as near term, long term, and prospective term. According to the plan, the near term project is followed the design of 0.3million cubic meters/day, which can meet the water demands of Zixing urban area and Chenzhou urban area. Long term project is followed the design of 0.6million cubic meters/day, which can meet water demands of 0.68million urban residents. Prospective term is followed the design of one million/day, which can meet water demands of one million residents.

The water surface area of Dongjiang Lake is 160 square kms with the water storage capacity of 8.12 billion cubic meters, accounting for the 1/136 applicable fresh water resources of China, equal to half of Dongting Lake. All those data highly indicated the significance of Dongjiang Lake in China. The water intake was located in Dongjiang Water Reservoir. Once finished, will the 8.12 cubic meters water polluted?

Chen Kangxian who is the principal of Comprehensive Department of Dongjiang Diversion Project said: “at the beginning of the approval of project, we did lots of studies on the water quality. The key reason to set the water intake in the water reservoir is because the water of Dongjiang Lake can meet National Class II standard without test at any time. Once the project finished, the water can be supplied to local residents after regular treatment. Furthermore, the annual average inflow of Dongjiang Lake is 4.4billion cubic meters, but we just take 200million cubic meters from it, which is a safe support for the water reservoir’s water flow as well as water safety.”

“The water intake of Dongjiang diversion project is followed the model of bank tower. The tower is 296meters high. The gate of water tower was designed by stoplog gate way, which can be capable to take water from different layers. It was constructed by concrete cofferdam with rock bar water-eliminating,” introduced by Wang Hao who is the construction party of Dongjiang diversion project. Currently, the pavement of concrete for the intake cofferdam has been finished. In the next step, it will handle the exploration of the mountain for the bottom of the cofferdam. It is a very dangerous work for it would follow one-step forming exploration by 12,000pcs of blasting caps. Now, this solution is being submitted for the experts of Yangtze River Water Resources Commission of the State Water Conservancy Ministry for reasoning. Once approved, it can be proceeded for operation. It was estimated to be operated in the end of this October. The whole project was estimated to be finished next December.
