Recently, good news came from the Republic of Zambia, Africa that China’s first support project for the Lighting Africa Program-- a hydropower station project in Zambia, is making smooth progress. This aid and construction project is undertaken by 22 hydropower engineers and technicians from Rucheng County Hydropower Co., Ltd., Chenzhou City, Hunan Province.
Since mid-April this year, the construction team has been busy with construction of the hydropower station in Zambia. At present, foundation lofting, first-phase excavation and blasting operation have been completed. In addition, open channel diversion has been finished by 50%, and 20% of materials that the project needs have been prepared.
This project has received vigorous supports from United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Ministry of Water Resources of the People’s Republic of China, International Center on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP) and Chenzhou Base of ICSHP, UNIDO.
