On February 22, 2016, the 15th day of Chinese Lunar New Year as well as Lantern Festival, the first Lantern Show was held in the historic Yuhou street, which granted Chenzhou city with auspicious atmosphere.
The Lantern Show was opened at 9:00a.m. on that day. Dragon dance, Kunqu opera, folk performance, couplet, fireworks show, and some other activities were well prepared by the sponsor in that street where was rich with folk culture and intangible heritages. Two arch gates decorated with different lanterns were set up in the two ends of the street. On stepping into the street, all visitors can enjoy themselves with the rich traditional folk culture.
The 68-year old Wu Anying is the inheritor of Xifengdu fish noodle which is one of Chenzhou municipal intangible cultural heritages. She arrived at Yuhou street at 6:00a.m. on that day and cooked the traditional noodles for guests. Xu Jiaxiong who is the inheritor of Erhu (one of traditional instruments of China) performed Erhu music there as well. Some other intangible cultural heritages were shown in Yuhou street.
The lanterns posted with riddles were being hanged on the street when darkness has fallen, which attracted many visitors to participate in the quiz. Mr. Zheng who lives near Yuhou street went to watch the show with his family members. He appraised such kind of activity was the best for enjoying Lantern Festival.
Zhang Xihui- Member of Chenzhou Municipal Party Committee Standing Committee and Minister of Chenzhou Municipal Propaganda Department visited some inheritors of intangible cultural heritages and shop owners on that day. She said Yuhou street is the root of Chenzhou city’s cultural inheritance and it is with irreplaceable advantages on promoting the development of cultural tourism, so that it should be improved to be a symbolic regional culture code on the basis of industry condition localization.
