The average fine days of environmental air quality in the province's 90 county-level cities and towns was 84.1% and the air quality of Guidong County ranked first in the province.

In recent years, Guidong County adhered to the ecological county, sped up the green rise, adhered to the bottom line of ecological environment, set up a "green threshold" in the process of the project introduction, implemented the "Four not approved", resolutely stopped the projects that harm the environment, and strived to eliminate new pollution and ecological damage from the source. The county has closed 3 chemical companies, shut down 159 illegal brick factories and 2 coal mines in the county, and all-out banned the sand mining in the Oujiang River basin; completed and updated 133 thousand mu of artificial afforest and greened 442 km of water and road. At the same time, pushed forward the comprehensive improvement of rural environment with the focus of "clean countryside", "clean water action" and "clean and tidy project", carried out urban and rural garbage collection, comprehensive treatment and cleaning service, and established 32 new rural demonstration villages with high standards. The county invested 30 million yuan of industry guidance funds to support the development of characteristic agriculture, a total area of 641 thousand mu of tea, south bamboo, herbs, flowers and other bases last year.

At present, the county's forest coverage rate reached 85%, ranking first in Hunan Province, and it has been listed as the construction pilot area of national ecological demonstration area. The county was identified as the country with highest negative oxygen ion by World's Guinness Headquarters and the PM2.5 index remained at 7 micrograms/m3. The county has won "The best ecotourism demonstration county in China", "The best summer tourism famous county in China", "The best summer resort in Hunan Province" and other prestigious, and has been shortlisted the "National Top 100 deep breathing town" for three consecutive years.
