Water Conservancy Project in Ming Dynasty Found in Yongxing County

On July 25, the reporters learned from Yongxing County that cultural relics department of Yongxing County found a huge Danxia stone wall with "Chang" shape in the Yangxia Village Taihe Town, which is the chisel mountain and water conservancy project in Ming Dynasty– Chuanyanhui after research.

 

The discovery Chuanyanhui is similar the fish mouth of Dujiangyan with water storage and flood discharge function. The Chuanyanhui is located in the middle of Danxia stone wall and is artificial stone hole with "Chuang" shape, about 6 meters high, nearly 2 meters wide and about 16 meters deep. Through the hole in the mountain wall, lighting through the both ends of stone hole and a stream of water flows out of the hole to form a waterfall at the bottom of the stone hole, falling into the clear pool.

 

After the cultural relics experts on-site investigation and research, the Danxia stone wall with "Chuang" shape is the chisel mountain and water conservancy project in Ming Dynasty–Chuanyanhui. The whole Chuanyanhui project has the advantages of ingenious design, reasonable design, fine construction and full functions. It is not only with water storage and flood discharge function, but also easy to overhaul and maintain. According to stone carving "Jiajing" on the hole wall, this water conservancy project has been about five hundred years of old history.

 

"It is rare to have ancient farmland water conservancy project with definite annals in Hunan Province, not only has practical value, but also is an important reference for the modern water conservancy construction and flood control and drought relief project". The responsible person in Yongxing Cultural Relics Department said.
