2018-01-06

On December 26th, the Mangshan Mountain in Yizhang County was successfully passed the review of the "8th batch of China National Geopark Appraisal Conference" held in Beijing to be qualified for the construction of national geopark, which was another Chinese sign of geological resource class after getting "The Hometown of Hot Springs in China".

The Mangshan Mountain, located at the northern foot of Nanling Mountain, is the largest national forest park in Hunan Province, with granite landforms, water landscape and geological relics as the main body, supplemented by natural ecology and human landscape, with a total area of 20,000 hectares, including 6 geological relics at the national level and above, and 23 geological relics sites at the provincial level with unique resource advantages of geological relics. On December 2011, the provincial geopark was established with the approval of the Provincial Department of Land and Resources, and opened on June 2015. After several years of construction in the county, the infrastructure and scenic environment of the park have been greatly improved. At the same time, the county has protected geological relics, fully excavated the development of geological landscape, played the role of geological science education, and carried out the preparatory work in the early period of the declaration.

Mangshan granite landscape is one of 10 world-class geological relics in Hunan Province, which records the history and important evolution of the earth, including stratigraphic profiles, paleontological fossils, minerals, rocks, water bodies and other geological relics.

In the next step, the county will work out the rules and regulations for the management of the park in accordance with the state regulations on the protection and management of natural resources and the basic principles of "combining protection and development, protecting first and developing second" to promote the protection, exploitation and utilization of geological relics. The county will improve the construction of the signs, landmarks, monuments, museums and other signs, and popular science facilities in the park as soon as possible, and further improve the infrastructure construction such as the tourism road, walking tour, catering and shopping in the park to make sure that Mangshan National Geopark Park opens within two years.
