Intermittent Shunt Control Handled for Dealing with Return Peak Time after CNY

2018-02-21

February 20, 2018 is the 5th day of Chinese New Year of Dog, as well as the 20th day of the spring festival transportation period. It is nearly the end of the holiday, a great amount people chose to return to their working places in recent two days (5th and 6th Day of Chinese New Year), forming the return peak time. It was estimated that over 4.7million cars would be on the way of highways of Hunan Province during those days. In order to ensure the sound traffic condition, Hunan Province Highway Police Bureau decided to handle emergency traffic shunt on some key sections and intermittent shunt control in some sections as well.

It was learned from the data collected by Yueyang Branch of Hunan Highway Police Bureau that the 44,735 cars passed southbound Yueyang – Miluo section of G4 highway on February 19, 2018. Two main flows are cars from Hubei Province exit from Yanglousi Entrance and southbound cars passed by Suiyue Highway exit from Kakou Entrance.

Li Xiaohui, a policeman from Linxiang Brigade of Yueyang Detachment of Hunan Highway Police Bureau, introduced emergency traffic shunts would be carried out every 10am-12pm and 3pm-5pm from February 19th- 21st in Jinwu Entrance of Jinggangao Highway and Hangrui Highway. Drivers were recommended to drive via Pingru Highway if they go southbound, and via 107 national road if they pass by Yueyang area.

Due to large number of cars driven southbound via Jinggangao Highway, Yueyang Detachment did shunt control on Gongcheng Entrance of Yuelin Highway and Jinwu Entrance of Jinggangao Highway. All the cars Hunan Province bound from Hubei Province have to be driven through Gongcheng Entrance of Hangrui Highway, Dajie Toll Gate, and then keeping southbound from Tongcheng Entrance of Pingru Highway. All southbound cars from Jinggangao Highway have to be driven through Jinwu Hub, Daijie Toll Gate, and then keeping southbound from Tongcheng Entrance of Pingru Highway. The key reason for these measures are for avoiding more traffic jams on Yueyang- Changsha section of Jinggangao Highway.

So as Ronghui Toll Gate and Zhouwangpu Toll Gate. Due to more eastbound cars via Zhimushan Entrance of Hukun Highway, all eastbound cars (Shaoyang urban area, Changsha, Guangdong Province, and etc.) are forbidden to drive to highways via those toll gates every 9am to 20pm from February 19th to 25th, 2018 (4th – 10th day of Chinese New Year).

As reminded by the traffic policemen of Hunan Highway Police Bureau, all drivers have to pre-study their travel route before leaving. It is better to avoid the peak times. But if have to, all drivers please follow the commands of policemen.
