Recently, the 20th anniversary of the implementation of the Blood Donation Law and the 2016-2017 commendation conference for unpaid blood donation were jointly held by the State Health Commission, the Chinese Red Cross Federation and the Health Bureau of the Logistics Support Department of the Central Military Commission. With the outstanding achievements in blood donation, Chenzhou City was named the "National Advanced City of Unpaid Blood Donation", which was the 9th time to win this honor.

As a way to save other people's lives, volunteers devote their own blood selflessly to the public welfare of the society, which plays an immeasurable role in guaranteeing medical and clinical blood use. Since the implementation of the Blood Donation Law in 1998, leaders at all levels in our city have attached great importance to the work of unpaid blood donation and the cause of blood donation in our city has developed rapidly and healthily under their promotion. Chenzhou Central Blood Station has innovated unpaid blood donation mode, improved blood quality and safety, carried out nucleic acid testing in an all-round way, carried out human T-lymphotropic virus testing in the province, and improved the accuracy of blood testing. Hundreds of patients can avoid infectious diseases caused by blood transfusion every year, and greatly improves the safety of blood transfusion.

Our city has taken the lead in implementing unified blood transfusion and establishing a new model of "non-frozen routine supply" of Rh-negative rare blood. In the case of lack of frozen stock in many provinces and cities, our city's rare blood is no longer rare. 10 bags of fresh stock of rare blood every day ensure timely treatment of patients. Our city also has taken the lead in the preparation and application of platelet concentrate. All collected blood is prepared into mixed platelet concentrate and cryoprecipitation, which can make more efficient use of blood resources. Since the launch of the project, the annual growth rate of the preparation of mixed platelet concentrate has reached 70%, the supply of cryoprecipitation has increased by more than 56 times, and the comprehensive utilization rate of blood has increased to 120%, the best in the province.

In recent years, the main leaders of the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government have successively come to Chenzhou Central Blood Station. With limited financial resources, they have continuously increased their investment in human, financial and material resources, strengthened hardware construction, improved blood donation conditions, enabled donors to experience a more comfortable and safe blood donation environment, and ensured the safety of blood donation and blood use. In 2016, our city initiated the working mechanism of visiting and consoling unpaid blood donors in the whole province, and allocated nearly 600,000 yuan of special funds every year to console blood donors. Up to now, the mechanism has allocated 1.35 million yuan of condolence funds to 1,671 blood donors.
