Recently, the Chinese government website issued the State Council's Approval for the Construction of Innovation Demonstration Zone of the National Sustainable Development Agenda in Chenzhou, which agreed to build the Innovation Demonstration Zone of the National Sustainable Development Agenda in Chenzhou with the theme of sustainable utilization of water resources and green development.

The Approval pointed out that to build an innovative demonstration zone of the national sustainable development agenda, Chenzhou City should be guided by Xi Jinping's socialist thought with Chinese characteristics in the new era, carry out the spirit of the 19th National Congress and the 2nd and 3rd Plenary Sessions of the Nineteenth Central Committee, adhere to the general tone of work for steady progress, the new concept of development and the promotion of high-quality development, promote the overall layout of the "Five in One" as a whole, and promote the strategic layout of the "four comprehensive" strategy. Chenzhou should closely focus on the United Nations sustainable development agenda for 2030 and China's national programme for implementing the sustainable development agenda for 2030, focus on the low efficiency of water resources utilization and heavy metal pollution, integrate and apply the water pollution source interruption, heavy metal pollution remediation and treatment and other technologies to implement actions such as water source ecological environment protection, comprehensive treatment of heavy metal pollution and sources, improvement of quality and efficiency of urban sewage treatment, development of ecological industry, construction of water-saving society and cities, and support of scientific and technological innovation in accordance with the requirements of the "China's Innovative Demonstration Zone Construction Plan for Implementing the Sustainable Development Agenda for 2030", coordinate all kinds of innovative resources, deepen the reform of system and mechanism, explore suitable technical routes and system solutions, and form operational, replicable and popularizable solutions to play an exemplary role in promoting ecological priority and green development in the Yangtze River Economic Zone and to provide practical experience for the implementation of the sustainable development agenda for 2030.

At the same time, the State Council requested that the Hunan Provincial People's Government should establish and improve the coordination mechanism of relevant work, study and formulate special support policies according to the actual situation, form a synergy of promotion, support Chenzhou to implement all actions and projects in an all-round way, and achieve the goal of building innovative demonstration zones on the national sustainable development agenda. The Ministry of Science and Technology, in conjunction with the members of the Inter-ministerial Joint Meeting of the National Sustainable Development Experimental Zone, and in accordance with their respective responsibilities, should support Chenzhou in the construction of an innovative demonstration zone of the national sustainable development agenda in terms of major project arrangement, policy first-try and institutional mechanism innovation, and promptly study and solve major problems in the construction.

After Chenzhou started the establishment of innovative demonstration zone on the national sustainable development agenda in 2017, Yi Pengfei, Municipal Party Secretary and Director of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People's Congress, and Liu Zhiren, Deputy Party Secretary and Mayor attached great importance to, carefully deployed and fully promoted the establishment. It is of great significance to successfully establish an innovative demonstration zone for the national sustainable development agenda, which will become an important grasp for the high-quality development of Chenzhou and play an important role in displaying the image of Chenzhou.

It was reported that, along with Chenzhou, Lincang City in Yunnan Province and Chengde City in Hebei Province have been approved to build innovative demonstration zones of the national sustainable development agenda. Among them, Lincang City took the innovation-driven development as its theme in frontier multi-ethnic underdeveloped areas, and Chengde City took sustainable development of water conservation functional areas of urban agglomerations as its theme.
