On September 9, the press conference of Zixing City celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of PRC was held in the Press Release Hall of the Municipal Government.

Focusing on the theme of "Seventy Years of Initial Heart, A New Chapter of Dongjian Lake", the conference comprehensively introduced the significant achievements of Zixing City's economic and social development and Party building since the founding of New China 70 years ago.

Reporters learned from the press conference that in 1952, the GDP of Zixing City was only 8.13 million yuan, and the per capita GDP was only 55 yuan. In 2018, the total economy of Zixing City reached 34.674 billion yuan, and the per capita GDP reached 98,871 yuan. The total fiscal revenue increased from 440,000 yuan in 1952 to 2,469 million yuan in 2018. The county economic strength entered the first rank of the province, ranking among the top 100 counties (cities) with new urbanization quality in China, and among the top 100 well-off cities in China in 2018, ranking 76th in county-level cities.

In 1984, the State Council officially approved to build as the city and withdraw the county level; in 1985, the government of Zixing City moved from the Xingning ancient town to Tangdong New Area, and then entered the fast lane of urban development; in 1986, the Dongjiang Dam closed and stored water, and 60,000 migrants relocated, striding a striding pace of pioneering soil and rebuilding their homes.

Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, Zixing City has been guided by Xi Jinping's socialist ideology with Chinese characteristics in the new era, adhered to the concept of innovative development, accelerated transformation and upgrading, followed the path of green development, and vigorously developed ecological tourism. In 2015, Dongjiang Lake successfully created a national 5A tourist attraction. Zixing City has vigorously promoted the "No. 1 Project" of Dongjiang Lake Protection, and the water quality of Dongjiang Lake First-class Protected Area has maintained the national first-class drinking water standards all the year round.

Over the past 70 years, the income and consumption level of residents in Zixing City has been continuously improving, and the overall well-off level has reached 99.68 percent, ranking among the first comprehensive well-off standard counties in Hunan Province. By the end of 2018, 18 provincial poverty-stricken villages had been out of the list, and 4,684 families and 13,606 poor people had been lifted out of poverty; the public service system has been constantly improved, and the policy of free tuition, part of tuition and miscellaneous fees for senior high school education has been implemented in an all-round way, with the consolidation rate of compulsory education reaching 99.73 percent; the reform of public hospitals has been deepened, and the basic drug system has been fully covered; the cultural and sports undertakings have flourished and developed, and a network of three-level public cultural facilities has basically formed in urban and rural areas; the basic medical insurance and basic old-age insurance have been fully covered; and the living conditions of urban and rural residents have been constantly improved.
