On September 23, the press conference of Guidong County celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of PRC was held in the Press Release Hall of the Municipal Government.

With the development of New China and the great east wind of reform and opening-up, Guidong People, under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, united and forged ahead. The happiness index of the people in Guidong County has risen significantly, from a deserted town to a happy mountain city, from inadequate food and clothing to a well-off one.

Today, the three industries in Guidong County are developing in coordination, advancing hand in hand and developing rapidly. The tertiary production structure was optimized from 81.1:1.8:17.1 in 1949 to 13.2:24.6:62.2 in 2018; the GDP of the region increased from 10.98 million yuan in 1952 to 3.686 billion yuan in 2018; the per capita GDP increased from 157 yuan in 1978 to 15033 yuan in 2018. The per capita disposable income of urban residents and rural residents was 27.9 and 16.4 times that of 1990, respectively. The overall well-off society has reached 96.9 percent.

Over the years, based on the advantages of characteristic resources, Guidong County has focused on the development of ecological industry, put forward and practiced in the "four-in-one" of the economic and social development plan, urban and rural construction plan, land use plan and ecological environmental protection plan in the construction of industrial projects for the first time, continued to expand and strengthen the "three growth poles" of precision agriculture, ecological industry and global tourism.

The county has also insisted on ensuring and improving people's livelihood as its greatest responsibility and devoted more than 80 percent of the general public budget expenditure to people's livelihood; taken the lead in completing the construction of qualified schools and eliminating the task of "large class" in the whole city; also adhered to the full implementation of the national basic drug system in township hospitals, launched the pilot construction of medical community in grass-roots medical institutions and contracted services for residents' family doctors, and constantly improved the level of public health security.
