2019-12-17

A few days ago, the cultural and historical experts in Chenzhou City found an ancient city site during the field investigation in Haiquan Village, Chenjiang Street, Beihu District.

According to Liu Zhuanke, the former director of Chenzhou Cultural Relics Department and an expert in culture and history, Haiquan village's original stone building has a large volume and complete form. After many surveys, according to the geographical environment of Haiquan village, combined with the records of ancient books and archaeological excavation data, it can be concluded that this is at least the site of the ancient city before the Qin Dynasty.

On the morning of December 10, the reporter came to Haiquan village and the original stone retaining wall and enclosure can be seen everywhere; several ancient wells are distributed all over the village, with clear water.

After entering the back mountain, the original stone retaining wall is clearly built in sequence with the mountain, which is arranged in the form of terraces, very spectacular. A place surrounded by the original stone is about three meters higher than the ground, which is particularly striking. Standing on it, the view is wide, and the whole Haiquan village and Xiangnan logistics park are at a glance. A large ditch about two meters wide stretches from the top to the bottom of the mountain. The original stone retaining wall foundation on both sides of the ditch is about two meters wide and looms under the cover of wild vines.

Liu Zhuanke introduced that the ditch is a large-scale water conservancy facility built by the ancients and the drainage system of the ancient city. The project of Haiquan ancient city is huge. Under the primitive and backward production conditions, it needs the efforts of several generations to complete it. Haiquan ancient city site is very precious, which is of great value to understand and study the prehistoric history of Chenzhou and the social and cultural development of Chenzhou and even Wuling area in the future. The site of Haiquan ancient city needs further excavation and research.
