2020-03-20

After novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak, the problem of medical waste disposal is attracting attention. So how to deal with the medical waste in our city? Recently, the reporter came to Chenzhou Medical Waste Disposal Center near Daowoli, Suoshi Road, the city's urban area to find out the truth.

Liu Yabo, Director of Chenzhou Medical Waste Disposal Center, said that at about 4 a.m. every day, the staff of the center would go to more than 1100 medical institutions in the city to collect medical waste, which would be transported to Chenzhou Medical Waste Disposal Center in a unified way after collection. After weighing, it would be immediately sent to the cold storage, and then sent to the crushing and disinfection equipment for destruction through the conveyor belt in the cold storage, while adding a certain proportion of dry-type alkaline chemicals. After two-stage grinding, the fine particles of poisonous and harmful bacteria will be completely killed. After cooling, they will be transported to the landfill for landfill treatment. The whole treatment process is about 3 hours.

It was understood that Chenzhou Medical Waste Disposal Center has a daily treatment capacity of 15 tons of medical waste. At present, the city's medical waste is about 8 to 12 tons. During the epidemic prevention and control period, the medical waste is about 1 ton more per day. Once there is medical waste delivered, it will be treated within 12 hours.

During the epidemic prevention and control period, when Chenzhou Medical Waste Disposal Center collects medical waste, all the turnover boxes labeled with the novel coronavirus pneumonia label by the hospital will be destroyed together with the medical waste." Up to now, we have destroyed 3953 turnover boxes, effectively blocking the spread of virus in medical waste." Liu Yabo said.

For the recyclable medical waste turnover boxes, Chenzhou Medical Waste Disposal Center will strictly disinfect the turnover box, and the waste water generated from disinfection will also be strictly treated and discharged to the sewage treatment plant for further treatment.

Feng Jianbo, Head of Municipal Ecological and Environmental Affairs Center, said that up to now, Chenzhou Medical Waste Disposal Center has collected all the medical wastes in the city, especially the novel coronavirus infection pneumonia medical waste, and handled and disposed them smoothly and orderly.
