In recent years, top scholars and well-known experts in the field of sustainable development at home and abroad came to Chenzhou to promote the construction of Chenzhou National Sustainable Development Agenda Innovation Demonstration Zone, better undertake the national mission, provide sustainable development programs to the world on behalf of China, and conduct international discussions and exchanges.

In May 2019, the State Council approved Chenzhou to build the national sustainable development agenda innovation demonstration area. Now, more than a year has passed, what progress has been made in the construction of the demonstration area, and what is the next planning? On the afternoon of November 26, Liu Zhiren, Deputy Secretary of Chenzhou Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Chenzhou, who just attended the opening ceremony of the Fourth Asia Europe Urban Water Management Seminar and Hunan (Chenzhou) Water Resources Sustainable Utilization and Green Development Expo, was interviewed by media reporter.

Liu Zhiren said that since the construction of the demonstration area was approved, Chenzhou City has set May as the city's "Sustainable Development Publicity Month" and May 6 as the "theme day of sustainable development". Focusing on the theme of "sustainable utilization of water resources and green development" in the demonstration area, the "Four Water Linkage" mode of water protection, water control, water use and water saving has been implemented. After more than one year's efforts, the construction of the demonstration area has made initial progress:

The protection mode of "one lake and one policy" has been established for Dongjiang Lake Basin. The total discharge of main pollutants in Dongjiang Lake has been further reduced. The water quality of national control sections has been maintained at class I., the water quality standard rate of 38 provincial control sections in the city has reached 97.4 percent, and the first LNG fuel powered passenger ship in China has been built and successfully navigable; the natural "cold water" resources are used to develop big data industry and create the Dongjiang Big Data Industrial Park, 30 enterprises or units, including Huawei, Taobao and Bank of Changsha were attracted to settle in the park. The park was approved as the "New Industrial Demonstration Base" in Hunan Province; Chenzhou Technician College and Hunan Water Development Co., Ltd. signed the first contract water-saving demonstration project in Hunan Province, using "purified water" resources to promote the integration of urban and rural water supply. Jiahe County's experience of "four comtracts, three modernizations and three methods" has been popularized nationwide. Suxian District has become the first batch of five counties, cities and districts that have passed the acceptance of "county water-saving society standard construction" in Hunan Province first. Zixing City was awarded the third "green mountain" innovation base in China, and Chenzhou City was awarded the "second batch of national industrial resources comprehensive utilization base ".

"After more than one year's efforts, the whole city has stronger awareness of water protection, better water control effect, wider water use ideas and more practical water-saving actions." Liu Zhiren said that at present, Chenzhou City is actively planning the "14th Five-Year Plan" of the national sustainable development agenda innovation demonstration area in Chenzhou, and is committed to building the demonstration area into a "green water and green mountain demonstration area, a model area of green transformation, and a pioneer area of inclusive development".

He said that Chenzhou will further deepen the reform of system and mechanism, strive to break the bottleneck constraints and stimulate social innovation vitality; highlight the dominant position of enterprise innovation, improve the mechanism for entrepreneurs to participate in the formulation of enterprise related innovation and entrepreneurship policies; establish and improve the information sharing mechanism of innovation achievements, support the construction of market-oriented and specialized technology transfer institutions, smooth the channels for the docking of innovation achievements and the market, and promote the deep integration of science and technology, industry and investment, to add new momentum to the construction of the demonstration area.
