Hunan Kun Opera Troupe held a performance to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Kun Opera being listed as world heritage in Chenzhou on the evening of May 14. The photos show the scene of “An Interrupted Dream” of “The Penoy Pavilion”.
There were two performances on the evening of May 14 and 15. Highlights of Kun Opera such as Hu Village, Meeting Mother and Stabbing the Tiger will be staged on May 18. The photo shows the scene of oratorio Cicadas Chill, Shrill-To the Tune of Yulinling.
Kun Opera is a combination of singing, reciting, performing, acting, dancing and martial arts, with elegant lyrics, melodious tunes and exquisite performance. The lyrics of opera highlights are filled with people’s feelings, reflections on life and ideas of morality.
In 2001, Kun Opera was listed in the “Representative List of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity”, whose status and value receive worldwide attention.
As one of the ancient operas in China, Kun Opera originated in Kunshan, Suzhou in the 14th century and was introduced into Hunan during the period of Wanli in Ming Dynasty, exerting great influence on the development of the traditional operas in Hunan.
