Chaping Yao Village in Zixing City was awarded the plaque of “National Demonstration Village of Ethnic Unity and Progress” on June 23.
The Yao population accounts for about 80% of the total population in the Chaping Yao village. In recent years, the village has increased its hardware facilities such as a Yao cultural activity center, a bookstore, a reading room, a science and technology activity room and a psychological counseling room.
Besides, ethnic unity work teams such as a voluntary mediation committee, a Party member volunteer service team and a Yao literature and art promotion team were also organized, providing regular services for the convenience of the villagers, carrying out the Party history education activities, promoting government policies, improving village environment and offering physical examinations.
In recent years, Chaping Yao Village has innovated its services to build unity and harmony among ethnic groups. In the village, facilities such as a gatehouse with Yao characteristics, an ecological parking lot and a leisure trail have been built, as well as a publicity board on ethnic unity and progress and a hand-painted wall of Yao culture to deepen the villagers’ understanding of ethnic unity and progress.
At the same time, a series of activities have been carried out to promote ethnic unity, such as thematic events for the promotion of Yao traditional culture, the celebration of the three major Yao traditional festivals and the display of intangible cultural heritage, in order to call on the villagers to work together for common development.
"The Yao and Han ethnic groups in our village are closely embracing each other like pomegranate seeds to seek for common development," said Pan Fanhui, Party Branch Secretary of Chaping Yao Village.
