"Chronicle of Important Events During the CPC’s 100-year History” was published on June 28. These historical events that have taken place in Chenzhou City are sorted out as follows.
After the May 4th Movement in 1919, many articles and books spreading Marxism sprung up. Among them, some advanced activists who had initial communist ideology began to publicize Marxism among workers, including Li Dazhao, Chen Duxiu, Mao Zedong, as well as Deng Zhongxia, who came from Yizhang County, Chenzhou City.
From January to July, 1928, Zhu De, Chen Yi and other generals led armed uprisings in western Hunan Province and other areas. In April, Mao Zedong summarized the experience in doing ideological work among the masses, and demanded the army to follow Three Main Rules of Discipline and Eight Points for Attention. In late April, Zhu De and Chen Yi led the remaining troops after Nanchang Uprising and the peasant army of Southern Hunan Uprising to Jinggangshan, where they joined forces led by Mao Zedong and established the Fourth Army of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army (later named the Fourth Army of Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army). Zhu De served as commander and Mao Zedong as Party representative and secretary of the Military Commission.
In mid-June 1933, the Sixth Red Army Corps was built. In August 1934, the Military and Political Committee of the Sixth Red Army Corps was officially established, with Ren Bishi, a representative of the Central Committee, as chairman, Xiao Ke, a native of Jiahe County, as army commander, and Wang Zhen as political commissar.
In March 1939, Luo Ronghuan and Chen Guang, who came from Yizhang County, led a section of the No.115 Division of the Eighth Route Army (led by the Chinese Communist Party during the War of Resistance Against Japan) into western Shandong Province. In May, they won the Lufang Battle in Tai’an and Feicheng Counties, and killed more than 1,300 Japanese soldiers.
From November 7 to 16, 1981, after seven consecutive victories, Chinese women’s volleyball team won its first world championship at the Third FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup held in Osaka, Japan. By 1986, the Chinese women’s volleyball team won the world championship five times in the World Cup, World Championship and the Olympic Games.
The Chinese women’s volleyball team used to train at Chenzhou Sports Base, which has been expanded several times and now is a landmark in Chenzhou City. After entering the 21st century, the new generation of Chinese women’s volleyball team has trained here for several times. When Chen Zhonghe and Lang Ping were the head coaches, they brought their teams to Chenzhou for training and created new brilliance.
At the Ceremony Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Long March held on October 21, 2016, China’s General Secretary Xi Jinping told the Pary members and cadres about the touching “Half Quilt” story in Shazhou Yao Village, Wenming Yao Township, Rucheng County in the Long March.
