“300 kg of chestnuts have been all purchased by buyers from Fujian province at 18 yuan per kilogram as soon as they were transported to Tuqiao Town, Rucheng County, Chenzhou City, bringing in an income of more than 5,000 yuan,” said Fan Xiaoliang, who have planted chestnuts for a long time and gotten better at planting it.
He added: “During its flourishing period, thousands of kilograms of chestnuts can be picked every day.”
Aobei Village of Tuqiao Town has seen prosperous development in chestnuts industry in recent years. 185 households in the village planted chestnuts under the guidance of Fan Xiaoliang, with a planting area of more than 3,000 mu (200 hectares). The chestnuts are sold to Fujian, Guangdong, Beijing and other provinces so that the farmers can obtain an annual income of 10,000 yuan to hundreds of thousands of yuan.
On July 21, 2021, Fan Xiaoliang won the first prize of Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award at the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Award Conference.
In recent years, the town has made full use of local resources, including chestnuts, gingers, peppers and other agricultural products. It has introduced more than 200 large-scale agricultural industrial projects and built 56 farmer cooperatives. It has also developed joint-stock partnerships between companies and 3,000 households of the village, transferred 1,666-hectare land, established 196 industrial bases, and planted 666 hectares of chestnuts, 338 hectares of peppers, 1,067 hectares of gingers, 80 hectares of southern bamboos, and 80 hectares of Chinese herbal medicine. 3.89-million-yuan industrial award has been distributed to 2,704 households, contributing to poverty alleviation and rural revitalization.
