Good news came on August 29 that Shi Yiting, a native of Guiyang County, won the gold medal in the women's 200m T36 final and equaled the world record in the Tokyo Paralympic Games. It is worth mentioning that the world record of 28.21 seconds was set by Shi Yiting at the 2019 IAAF World Para Championships in Dubai.
Shi Yiting was born in a remote village named Niexi Village in Leiping Town, Guiyang County. She was born with brain damage from hypoxia which resulted in muscle atrophy of her left upper limb, and became a fourth-level physically disabled person.
Shi Yiting has shown a talent for track and field sports since childhood with strong leg strength and good jumping ability. She was selected to train in the track and field team of the Guiyang No.3 High School, Hunan Disabled Persons' Federation and China Paralympics Olympic Delegation.
She has gained outstanding achievements by hard training and indomitable spirit along the way. She has won gold medals of 100-meter sprint T36 and 200-meter sprint T36 in the 2015 National Games of Disabled Persons and 2016 World Para Athletics Grand Prix (Beijing), and gold medals of women's 200m in the Rio Paralympics and the 9th IAAF World Para Championships.
In recent days, good news has come in succession from the sports world of Guiyang County. In the Tokyo Olympic Games not long ago, Guiyang weightlifter Hou Zhihui won the gold medal in women's 49kg weightlifting, which is also the first gold medal in weightlifting for the Chinese delegation. Now Shi Yiting won the honor for the motherland by equaling the world record in the Tokyo Paralympics.
Guiyang County, a place famous for sports champions, has a fine sports tradition and was selected as one of the first batch of the Sports Advanced County and the National Advanced Unit for Sports Venues. At present, it has cultivated world champions Li Ping, Yi Siling, Zhang Wangli, Hou Zhihui, Shi Yiting, national champions Luo Shifang, Wang Jiali and other sports stars.
