Zixing Wuling Agricultural Civilization Museum was successfully rated as a national third-class museum, according to the grading evaluation results of the fourth batch of national museums released by the China Museum Association recently. It’s the first county level museum that received such title in Chenzhou city. And a total of nine museums in Hunan province won the honor.
The museum is the only special agricultural museum in Hunan province. Now, there are 1,613 registered sets of collections, which are divided into two basic exhibition halls of Wuling agricultural civilization physical exhibition and Zixing folk customs.
The collections are mainly agricultural objects unearthed by Hunan Provincial Archaeological Team in the 99th pile of Dongjiang Lake (1978-1980), such as pottery, stone tools, bronze, and ancient coins.
The bronze bell in the Western Zhou Dynasty, He’s Baldachine in Emperor period of Qing Dynasty, cooper dagger-axe in the Warring States Period and other representative relics have high historical and artistic value. It fully shows the characteristics of Wuling areas in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and vividly reflects the living characteristics of agricultural production and folk customs in Wuling areas.
In recent years, the museum has made continuous efforts to improve public cultural facilities, strengthened collection management and scientific research, improved its comprehensive strength and influence, played its role in social publicity and education. It received more than 1.5 million tourist arrivals.
