The Chenzhou Beihu Airport has been approved to officially open on September 16, 2021. Two air routes—Chenzhou-Beijing Daxing Airport and Shanghai-Chenzhou-Beihai—will be opened, with four flights every week for each route. The first flight will fly from Beihu Airport to Beijing Daxing Airport.
The airport is located in Huatang Town, Beihu District, and is 20 km away from Chenzhou downtown, which can benefit 20 million people around. It will become a hub on the tourism routes connecting southern Hunan, border areas of Hunan and Jiangxi, and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The airport has an estimated investment of 2.13 billion yuan and the planned land area of 3,100 mu (206.7 hectares). The Aircraft Movement Area Reference Code reaches 4C. The total length of its runways are 2,600 meters.
It is designed to meet the goal of passenger throughput of 550,000, 3,000 tons of cargos and 7,300 flights by 2025. There is a 6,419-square-meter terminal, six stands on station site, and complete supporting facilities for navigation, weather, fuel supply, and fire rescue.
The airport is an important infrastructure project of Chenzhou city’s modern transportation strategy, and was listed in the 12th Five-Year Plan for China’s Civil Aviation Development by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in 2011. The construction of the airport has taken ten years.
In addition to the two new air routes, by the end of October this year, CAAC will also open such air routes as Guiyang-Chenzhou-Wenzhou, Chongqing-Chenzhou-Ningbo or Haikou, Chongqing-Chenzhou-Jieyang, Kunming-Chenzhou Quanzhou, which shall be subject to the approval of CAAC.
Next, the airport will give priority to connecting major domestic economic regions such as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Yangtze River Delta region, Chengdu-Chongqing economic zone and Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone, to attract investment across the country, thus accelerating the city’s foreign economic and cultural exchanges.
At the same time, the airport will also open air routes to Guiyang, Wenzhou, Chongqing, and other cities to meet the high-quality travel needs of Chenzhou people.
