October should be the harvest time for single-season rice. However, persistent rainfall made large areas of rice fall down in several villages, calling for urgent harvest. But there would mainly be rainy days with lower temperature in the next few weeks, which makes villagers more anxious.

 

Xu Zhelong immediately reported the situation to Huatang Town. After in-depth investigation, the town quickly decided to launch the field chief system to save rice without delay. 

 

Since mid to late October, over 80 volunteers and field chiefs at town, village and group levels were divided into four teams to harvest and dry rice in 12 villages. 

 

 

They helped villagers raise funds to buy more than 10 harvesters and dryers, and harvested and dried more than 500 tons of rice. Field chiefs also contacted procurement companies and helped 400 households sell 1,000 mu (about 66.7 hectares) of rice, which won applause from villagers.

 

Since the launch of Party history education, Huatang Town has implemented the field chief system according to local farmland conditions. 278 field chiefs at town, village and group levels were designated to provide service for agricultural production and rural revitalization.

 

Up to now, the town has solved more than 60 problems through the field chief system, benefiting more than 11,000 villagers.
