Hunan’s 9 places selected as ‘Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art’

183 counties (cities or districts) and townships (subdistricts) were selected as the "Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art" from 2021 to 2023, according to the results released by Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism. Among them, 9 places including Wudaoshui Town of Sangzhi County, Zhangjiajie City, and Zixing City, Chenzhou City were included the number of which ranks fourth across the country.
"Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art" is a cultural project for the benefit of the people established by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which is reevaluated every three years.
According to the requirements of the new era, the "Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art" in 2021-2023 will focus on candidates’ role in inheriting traditional Chinese culture, promoting advanced socialist culture so as to drive the high-quality development of public culture, promote the integration of culture and tourism and help rural revitalization.
The representative folk cultural resources include traditional art forms such as painting, calligraphy, music, dance and drama, as well as contemporary art forms such as photography, chorus and peasant painting.
These folk cultures and arts have a wide popularity, brand activities, characteristic teams and representatives, high participation rate among local people, and play an exemplary role in promoting rural revitalization, culture and tourism integration, and the innovative development of cultural industry.
