Busy picking, carrying and packing oranges, fruit farmers are immersed in the joy of harvest. Zhou Jian, director of the farm, said excitedly: “More than 3.3 hectares of navel oranges are planted here and we picked the first batch on November 8. Oranges sell good at present with a total of over 5,000 kilograms sold to all parts of the country mainly through the Internet.”
As the main producing area on one of China’s three major citrus industrial belts, that is, Southern Jiangxi-Southern Hunan-Northern Guangxi Belt, Yizhang County has been promoting the development of navel orange industry by cooperating with scientific research institutions such as Huazhong Agricultural University to realize the effective combination of production, learning and research. Currently, a total of 18,533 hectares of navel oranges are planted in Yizhang with 196,000 tons of output in 2020 valued at 1 billion yuan.
