Guiyang County boasts rich mineral resources, with more than 60 kinds of minerals identified in the county. The existing coal, graphite and lead zinc are 23.75 million tons, 17.99 million tons and 800,000 tons respectively. 

 

In recent years, the county has focused on environmental protection and high-quality economic development, and launched campaigns to build green mines, improve open-pit mines and manage waste mines, in an effort to constantly improve the high-quality development of mining areas.  

 

“All processes are completed in a closed corridor about 1,000 meters long. This production and management method completely eliminates the effects of dusts on the surrounding environment.” Chen Qiliang, head of Huaguo Mining Industry, explained one of reasons for production environment improvement in the mining area. 

 

As a provincial green mine, Huaguo Mining Industry optimizes the development and utilization of mineral resources, actively explores new green mine construction ways, and strives to achieve a win-win situation between economic development and natural resources.

 

 

Heye Mining Area is also a good example in green transformation and development. Exposed gangue used to be seen everywhere here, which not only took up too much room, but the sulfides released polluted the air, farmland and water, and sometimes even caused spontaneous combustion. It’s urgent to solve the problems brought by coal gangue. 

 

“We organized personnel to plant nearly 10,000 trees and flowers on the gangue mountains to make the mine green and beautiful, and now the greening rate is up to 80%.” The head of Heye Town, Guiyang County, said that after the local environment has been improved, many villagers began to develop flower and fruit industry. Local agricultural products such as kiwifruits, watermelons and alpine grapes are popular owing to online platforms. 

 

After the green mine construction, a green mine industrial chain has taken shape. 

 

“Green development is the lifeline of development of mining enterprises,” said an official of the Guiyang County Natural Resources Bureau. Since the green mine construction started, the county has taken multiple measures to spread green mine construction to mining enterprises. Mining enterprises have gradually realized that green mine construction is the lifeblood of sustainable development of mines. The green transformation and development of mining industry have to be made.  

 

After Chenzhou was listed as the pilot area for green development of mining transformation, Guiyang County took various measures to promote the construction of green mining area. At present, 17 mines in the county have fully started the construction of green mines, and 9 have been completed.

 

Among them, Huangshaping Lead Zinc Ore and Hunan Baoshan Lead Zinc Silver Ore of Hunan Nonferrous Metals Co., Ltd. have become the first batch of provincial green mines, and have been included in the list of green mines of the Ministry of Natural Resources, becoming national green mines.  

 

“Now, we continue to strengthen the green mine construction. By the end of November this year, we will build more than five green mines, and the green mines in the county account for over 80% of the total production mines.” Yin Bo, director of Guiyang County Natural Resources Bureau, said that other production mines and mines under construction will accelerate the construction of green mines to ensure that all production mines meet the green mine standards by the end of 2022.
