2021-11-25

In November, Kuang Suzhen, secretary of Longcun Yao Ethnic Village, Meitian Town, Yizhang County, is busier than usual. Navel oranges in the village are ripe for harvest and sale. Kuang takes a hand personally in picking, packaging, transportation and sales of navel oranges. She said, “Hundreds of kilograms of navel oranges had been sold just in half a month after the fruits put on the market.

“Many agricultural products were once unsalable, but now supply is often short of the demand.” Kuang said that it is e-commerce platforms that help local agricultural products go out. Since this year, the online sales of e-commerce platforms in Longcun Yao Ethnic Village have realized 2.4 million yuan.

Longcun was once the main coal area in Yizhang County. It became rich and then poor both because of coal. In 2017 when Kuang served as the village secretary, she led villagers to develop green economy instead of coal.

While developing green economy and bringing rich and large quantities of agricultural and sideline products to the village, it’s important to turn them into villagers’ real income.

In addition to helping villagers sell products at offline markets, an e-commerce service platform was built to help villagers sell more than 40 kinds of agricultural and sideline products such as navel orange, honeysuckle and preserved meat online.

Especially for the sale needs of the previous poor households, the village provides free one-stop services including packaging and mailing. This effectively expanded sales channels of local products, increased villagers’ income and village collective, and promoted the development of agricultural industry.

The 12th Congress of Party Representatives of Hunan Province will be held in Changsha soon. As a representative of Chenzhou City to attend the congress, Kuang will focus on the development of rural e-commerce to solve the sale of agricultural products, and put forward suggestions to strengthen rural e-commerce infrastructure.

“The development of e-commerce has made contributions to the poverty alleviation of Longcun. Next, we will further improve related measures, solve the sale problems of more agricultural products, and help more villagers get rich.”
