In Leijia Village, Puman Township, Jiahe County, you can see many moxa gardens. These moxa gardens used to be abandoned miscellaneous houses. The village made the best of these idle land to plant moxa, a Chinese herbal medicine, which beautifies the village and helps increase the village collective’s income.
Leijia Village has a long history, with many idle and dangerous houses. In 2019, the village demolished 163 idle houses with the area of 1,230 square meters in order to improve the rural living environment.
After discussion, the idle land was reclaimed to plant moxa, which brings nearly 40,000 yuan of income to the village collective every year.
The township also strengthened the utilization of idle wasteland and dry soil. According to the principle of “rational utilization in accordance with laws and regulations”, the local government contracted the land out to develop the planting and breeding industry and photovoltaic industry, with more than 333 hectares of idle land being made good use of now for photovoltaic power generation, Chinese herbs planting, forests and other crops.
Navel oranges are covered with branches in Sanhui Ecological Farm, Banbei Village, Puman Township, attracting many tourists to pick. Since its establishment in July 2014, the farm has vigorously developed ecological leisure and sightseeing agriculture. Now, the farm has transferred 78.67 hectares of wasteland and dry land to Banbei Village for planting fruit and vegetables and breeding cold water fish, chickens and ducks. It has increased the collective income of the village by more than 60,000 yuan every year and created jobs for more than 30 villagers.
The winter sun shines brightly on the solar panels of the photovoltaic power station in Liuhe Village, Puman Township. This station was built on a barren mountain, with an area of 2,000 square meters and an installed capacity of 60 kilowatts. The annual power generation income is about 50,000 yuan, half of which belongs to the village collective and the rest is distributed to 44 villagers.
Liu Ping, party branch secretary of the village said that the photovoltaic power station is like a “golden chicken” laying eggs, which invigorates the collective economy of the village, but also increases the income of the villagers.
