The local government of Chenzhou is increasing efforts to develop an old-age service network, seeking to ensure care, support and recreation for the elderly. Up to now, there are 167 nursing institutions for the elderly across the city, with 41.2 beds per one thousand elderly people.
In a nursing home of Feitianshan Town, Suxian District, 32 poverty-stricken and childless elderly people live here, with 3 professional caregivers. At the same time, it has also worked with local township hospitals for treatment of the elderly. The elderly can enjoy their late life here with meals, daily care and entertainment.
Hu Jisheng, head of the nursing home, said that the nursing home provides 24-hour service. If there is a problem with the elderly here, he would get help within five minutes.
Data show that the number of the elderly aged over 60 is 828,000, accounting for 17.74% of the city’s total. The local government attaches great importance to old-age services and actively responds to the aging of the population.
Apart from traditional old-age caring institutions such as Feitianshan Nursing Home, Chenzhou also actively develops a service network integrating home and community, implements pilot projects in 264 communities such as Dongfenglu Community, and builds a comprehensive old-age caring service center integrating door-to-door services, medical care and health preservation, so as to solve basic old-age problems.
On July 29 this year, Chenzhou Healthcare Center, a key municipal livelihood construction project, opened. Different from the community and home-based old-age services, it’s a comprehensive and diversified old-age caring institution combining medical care, health preservation and facility care. It cooperates with the rehabilitation hospital of Chenzhou Municipal First People’s Hospital, with 500 beds for the elderly. It mainly provides services for those elderly people in need, as well as social provisions for the aged, giving medical care and health preservation to surrounding communities. It truly realized the full closed-loop management of caring institutions for the elderly, medical rehabilitation hospitals, nursing homes, supporting elderly care services and hospice care.
The operation of this center will focus on solving the rigid needs of disabled elders. It will build an old-age care service system integrating medical care, health preservation, culture and entertainment, meet the caring services for the elderly at different ages with personalized, professional and humanized services. It will also build a demonstration benchmark for transferring old-age care services in Chenzhou, Xiangnan, the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta.
Now, there are 167 nursing institutions for the aged, with a total of 33,000 beds, and 929 facilities for elderly. A total of 583 rural happy homes and 264 nursing institutions in communities and daytime caring centers have been built in the city.
