In recent years, given the geographical and resource advantages, Xianghua Town in Linwu County, Chenzou City has developed the Chinese herbs, with mode of “planting herbs between tea trees”. It has made rational use of land to optimize the product features, making Chinese herbs become a local characteristic agriculture.
After five years of development, Xianghua Town has planted more than 53 hectares of Chinese herbs, with 2 large planting bases and more than 100 individual farmers. It has seen a good development momentum.
Xianghua Town is located at the junction of Linwu, Jiahe and Guiyang counties. Drought and lack of water all year round, along with an average altitude of more than 400 meters, make it difficult for ordinary crops to survive.
After many investigations, the local government decided to develop Chinese herbs in 2017. Guo Guiping, the party secretary of Jiangshan Village, is one of the first Chinese herb planters.
This year, Guo Guiping took the lead in planting Chinese herbs between tea trees in the town, and expanded the planting area of the second batch of Chinese herbs to about 13.3 hectares.
Guo also distributed his medicinal seeds to farmers and mobilized villagers to plant together. Led by Guo, farmers have been busy laying tea shells on the newly-planted Chinese herbs to fertilize and sterilized the tea trees these days. Because tea shells are fertilizers, which can help keep the soil moist and sterilize the land.
Tang Hongguo, party secretary of Xianghua Town, said that in the next few years, the town will expand the planting scale of herbs to 333.33 hectares through the mode of “introduction and cooperation”, introduce one or two rough processing industrial chains, provide technical services, and strive to achieve social and economic benefits.
