On November 25, Zeng Xiaoquan, director of Jiahe County Cultural Relics Protection Center, explained to tourists at the Former Residence of Xiao Ke, where the CPC Jiahe South District Branch launched revolutionary activities.
Zeng Xiaoquan said that the number of tourists coming to visit the former residence and hold themed Party activities has doubled after its renovation. It received about 100,000 tourists from 82 Party organizations holding Party building activities in 2021 alone.
Jiahe lies in the heart of Hunan, Guangdong and Jiangxi Provinces, where CPC Jiahe County Special Branch—the first local organization of the Communist Party of China in Chenzhou City—was built. Peasant movements were launched, the armed force of Xiangnan was built, and many famous revolutionary martyrs like the first general Xiao Ke, Tang Chaoying and Huang Yishan were born here. The red army also left important footprints here in the Long March. The revolutionary martyrs with their blood and lives contributed to rich revolution-themed resources.
In recent years, given the advantages of the general’s hometown, Jiahe County has deeply explored the revolutionary culture resources, gathered such Red bases as Xiao Ke’s Former Residence, Martyrs Cemetery and Martyr Yin Zishao’s Tomb to create Red tourist and cultural brands, which laid a solid foundation for inheriting revolutionary spirits and strengthening revolution education.
The county has focused on the protection of Xiangnan Uprising Sites, where the former site of CPC Jiahe South District Branch launched activities, carried out protection and maintenance for many times, and timely solved the specific problems such as environmental protection and infrastructure construction.
In recent years, the county has invested about 300 million yuan to renovate the former residence and supporting infrastructure. Xiao Ke’s Former Residence has been rated as the provincial patriotism education base, provincial national defense education base and the provincial youth education base.
What’s more, joining hands with Hunan Oversea Travel, the county launched the Xiao Ke’s Former Residence—Huatian Zhudu Swimming Natatorium route, created an in-depth experience tour route including listening to revolutionary stories, enjoying Jiahe folk songs and tasting Xiangnan delicacies. Jiahe Tourism was promoted in Shanghai to further shape the city image brand. Efforts have been made to promote Jiahe’s Red tourist attractions and cultural tourism products.
Now, Jiahe County is the home to one national key cultural relics protection unit, 8 provincial cultural relics protection units, 16 municipal cultural relics protection units, 25 county-level cultural relics protection units and 50 immovable cultural relics.
